I love the weather in this town! And this summer has been no exception- we’ve had more sun than rain, more warm air than cool, and even though it’s humid a lot of the time, it’s nothing like the depressing humidity found in the South this time of year! The warm summer Bar Harbor weather is what the locals look forward to most in Bar Harbor, and this summer has not disappointed!
If you are wondering what the weather in Bar Harbor is like, we can give you an idea, but please don’t hold us to it! Everyone knows that if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute, it will change! This summer has been great so far- days averaging temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and the nights staying warm as well, not often getting lower than the 60s. We have had a lot of very clear days, only once in awhile getting a small thunderstorm or little rain shower to help water the grass. All in all, I would say this summer has been spectacular; perfect for all the visitors that come to Bar Harbor to get out in Acadia National Park to see Thunder Hole, Sand Beach and the rest of the gorgeous park. The weather has been just right for whale watching with the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company on Frenchman Bay, hiking around Jordan Pond and all the other wonderful hikes and biking through the carriage roads of Acadia National Park.
But as the title of this blog indicates- the weather can change at the snap of your fingers! We recommend bringing along a rain jacket and a warm fleece or sweater, unless you plan to buy a local sweatshirt from Cool As A Moose or The Acadia Shop! It’s always good to have a backup plan in your wardrobe should the weather cool down while you are staying with us. Plus, if you have plans to join a whale watching expedition or would like to kayak in the chilly ocean, you will need some warmer wear!
For the most part, Bar Harbor weather in the summer is fantastic! Should you visit us and find that the weather is cool and foggy this summer- don’t despair! There is still a lot to do here when it’s raining! We have the Abbe Museum, the Argosy Gallery and many other cultural interests to visit, as well as many excellent restaurants for you to try! Shopping for tourmaline in downtown Bar Harbor is a must, and after dinner at Mache Bistro, Cafe This Way or Galyn's, (if you’ve saved room!) you must visit one of several awesome ice cream parlors to satisfy your sweet tooth! (or sweet teeth, if you’re like me!) But then again, if you’re here in Bar Harbor and the weather is less than perfect- just wait a minute… it‘ll change!
